PLANT OF THE MONTH
EVERGREEN HERBS

lacecap hydrangeaThyme

Many different varieties of Thyme can be found these days. Their colors range through all sorts of greens, golds and silvers. The one pictured to the left is a variegated silver Thyme. Many unusual scented thymes are available as well, including coconut, orange, and lime.

Wooly Thyme is one of my favorite groundcovers. The silvery green, fuzzy foliage, which doesn't grow over an inch high, can be walked on. When cold weather comes it turns a purple hue.

English Lavender

Lavender is a beautiful and useful herb that with year round interest, long blooming in the Summer and silvery green in the winter. Many excellent varietes can be found at the garden center, Munstead and Hidcote are popular and have done well in our experience.

rosemaryRosemary

Rosemary is considered a tender perennial in our climate. The variety Arp is the most winter hardy and in our experience doesn't have a problem making it through the winter. Consider planting it in a sheltered location in full sun if you would like to overwinter it.
